CASP: Family Education Program

The Ann Sullivan Center of Peru (CASP), a special education research center, needed to highlight its new Family Education Program, an innovative in-person and virtual group-based educational model for people with developmental disabilities (autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome), where their families learn the same ABA-based methods that the CASP specialists use so they can continue their children’s education at home and in their communities.

We put together a proposal that would highlight the experiences of four families in an “a-day-in-the-life” format, complemented by interviews with the families, as well as with CASP specialists. The project aimed to explain the benefits of family training and group-based learning and, just like the program itself, put an emphasis on motivation and maintaining high expectations.

We shot the film at CASP’s headquarters in Lima, Peru, as well as the families’ homes in the greater Lima area, using a handheld documentary style for the supporting images and a locked-down 2-camera setup for the sit-down interviews. The project was shot in three days with a minimal crew.

Visit the Ann Sullivan Center of Peru (CASP) website to find out more about their programs for people with developmental disabilities and their families.
